Mastercard acquires Minna Technologies to upgrade subscription experience
Mastercard has announced its agreement to acquire Swedish fintech Minna Technologies, a company specializing in subscription management, for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 2016 and based in Gothenburg, Minna enables consumers to manage subscriptions directly through banking apps and websites. The company serves over 120 million users globally and is recognized for its automated subscription management engine, bank-grade compliance, and extensive payment and subscription coverage.
Gaurav Mittal, EVP and CEO of Mastercard’s Ethoca, highlighted the importance of subscription services in fostering long-term relationships between businesses and consumers. He noted that consumers often face challenges when modifying or canceling subscriptions, which can lead to payment blocks and frustrations. By acquiring Minna, Mastercard aims to enhance the subscription experience for its users, ensuring smoother interactions between consumers and businesses while minimizing disruptions.
This acquisition follows Mastercard’s recent $2.65 billion deal for US-based AI-powered threat intelligence platform Recorded Future. The Minna deal, still subject to regulatory approval, will allow Mastercard to integrate Minna’s technology into its broader set of tools designed to improve the merchant-consumer relationship and provide more seamless subscription management solutions.
